GCN5はhistone acetyltransferase type Aである

これまで、ヒストンのアセチル化が転写と正に相関する事が知られていた。また、histone acetyltransferaseには核に局在するtype Aと、細胞質に局在するtype Bがある事が知られていた。

本研究では、テトラヒメナのhistone acetyltransferase type Aをクローニングし、これが酵母のGcn5pのホモログであることを明らかにした。
